It’s Good to be Back!

August 9, 2013 in Just News

I’ve been putting off writing this post for the last few weeks because I wanted to get this site spruced up again.  When I started Riot of Daisies, it was with the intention of merely sharing my love of yarn crafts.  Then in 2008 I made the decision that I would go back to school. I prioritized working (to pay for school) and studying and didn’t have the time or inclination to blog anymore.  I never put my hook down or stopped designing, though.

I did eventually get into the medical program that I was working toward in 2012, and then something big happened.  In May of 2013 I was diagnosed with cancer.  Not big, scary, You’re Definitely Going to Die cancer, but merely This is Going to Completely Alter the Course of Your Life cancer.  In June I had surgery to remove my entire thyroid and next week I’ll be starting my radiation treatment.  The end result is that I’ve had to leave school and because I had to quit my job to be in the medical program, my life has basically come apart at the seams.

Since the surgery, I’ve had a lot of time to think about life and I keep coming back to the fact that the thing I feel happiest doing is making things.  I have always had good responses to my patterns and they are so fun to make.  So starting a few weeks ago I am endeavoring to get back into designing and sharing my patterns here.  I’ve been working on my first pattern for sale which is beyond nerve wracking. Suffice it to say, it is a completely different beast when you want to ask people to pay for something rather than just giving it to them.

Here are a few other things to look forward to:

  • Sneak previews of my upcoming patterns
  • Photo and video tutorials for tips and techniques.
  • Free patterns on my Ravelry group patterns testers.
  • Behind the scenes action on Instagram.
  • Fun events on the Ravelry group and my Facebook page.
